2021 Reading List

Our 2021 reading list is focused on theme of Social Justice. Given the recent times and period we live in — Black Lives Matter demonstrations, and Social Justice imperatives shared across much of the country.

Little did we know at the time of our book selection in November 2020, after the Presidential election, that on January 6, 2021 we would witness an insurrection attempt at the United States Capitol! This insurrection attempt laid bare the reality of racial disparity. This group of white people were not met with any appreciable force despite their intent being publicized on various social media platforms announcing their plans to disrupt the reading and certification of each states’ Electoral votes. Ironically this, normally ceremonial activity, drew widespread attention due to the sitting president’s insistence that the election had been rigged. Unlike peaceful Black Lives Matter protests that had been met with maximum, extreme police presence — this group of insurrectionists broke into the Capitol causing the representatives of government to have to be protected and sheltered from the mob!

We trust you will view our selection as timely and join us in reading our titles. Our first title in 2021 will be Caste by Isabel Wilkerson. We know this title will begin our year on point and will launch on a most interesting reading year.

We hope you join us.
